Chicago USA

The trolls are out again on Facebook Dating. I always find it amusing to mess with them a bit. However, they need a new playbook. It is like they find different pictures but use the same script. Here is another example of messages received this week!

Stats on him: He is an Orthopedic Surgeon. Went to Georgetown University and is from Washington DC. Lots of pictures that are staged and 100% a catfish feel.

Scammer: Hi

Sue: Hi - where is Chessington? (I would have never matched with someone who said he lives in Chessington, I know it originally said Chicago - first red flag).

Scammer: In UK. How are you?

Sue: I thought your profile said Chicago?

Scammer: Yes

Sue: Yes, what?

Scammer: How are you?

Sue: Where do you live? Chicago or Chessington?

Scammer: Chessington

Sue: You are too far away, good luck to you.

Scammer: Where are you?

Sue: Chicago

Scammer: Hello

Sue: I want someone local who I can meet in person.

Scammer: But I'll be back soon, Before the end of August.

Sue: Where will you live in Chicago?

Scammer: Lincoln Park. Where do you live in Chicago?

Sue: Gold Coast

Scammer: OK, so tell me how long you have been on this site?

Sue: No idea. How long have you been on it?

Scammer: Few weeks now. You haven't found someone yet?

Sue: I didn't date during the pandemic. What hospital will you work at?

Scammer: I work in the Illinois Teaching Hospital, Chicago USA, I also work Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center - Chicago, Illinois as a chief Medical Director.

Sue: I thought you were a surgeon?

Scammer: Yes, am an orthopedic surgeon doctor.

Sue: And a Chief Medical Director?

Scammer: Yes

Sue: Where do you live in Lincoln Park?

Scammer: That's where my daughter lives. But, I'll be coming to join her in a couple of weeks from now.

Sue: Great! We can meet for a drink.

Sue: I just looked up the Chief Medical Director at Illinois Masonic. Someone else has your job! His name is Clifton. You better kick him out!

Scammer: Hello

Sue: I just looked up the Chief Medical Director at Illinois Masonic. Someone else has your job! His name is Clifton. You better kick him out! (second time for the cheap seats in the back!)

Scammer: Really.

Scammer: Hi

Sue: Why do you keep saying hi?

Scammer: Are you on Google Hangout?

Sue: No

Lesson Learned? The tell tale signs of a catfish. Where he lives changes frequently. He is always moving in a couple of weeks. When he talks about an address, he says Chicago USA or Chicago, IL. (us Chicagoans don't need to state the obvious) They also typically say they are in the medical field. And, Google Hangout is a favorite!

Really, really disappointing that there isn't a way for the "companies" to filter out these individuals ... I mean really. Can't they do a search for ip addresses that are coming from an international location vs. a domestic location --- and simply cut them off.
